History of the Cesar Chavez Health Fair

The Cesar Chavez Health Fair was first held in 2000. After California established March 31 as Cesar Chavez Day, AmeriCorps programs (like CalSERVES) were encouraged to find a way to celebrate the holiday and to commemorate the life of Cesar Chavez. Julie McClure, Director of the CalSERVES program, and her team of dedicated staff and AmeriCorps members, decided that there were many in the community who needed access to health services. Each year, children and families in the CalSERVES programs and the surrounding community  are served by the free and/or low-cost services accessed at the Health Fair. CalSERVES partners with community organizations each year to insure that families receive the information and help they need to be healthy and thrive.
